Membership awards can be earned for many different reasons. The awards are a great way to show parents in your school how active and successful your PTA is! There are some awards that are automatically earned and others that need to be applied for (details about the application process are emailed to the unit presidents in August). Remember, though, that in order to qualify for any membership awards, a PTA unit must be in good standing.
Building a Better Community Award: We believe that it takes a village to educate a child, and in that spirit we need to look outside of parents, teachers and students for inspiration, education and hope. The Building a Better Community award certificate is given to units who have shown they embrace this philosophy by making it their goal to reach out to the community and bring in community members who feel they are stakeholders in the education and well-being of all children.
To receive this award certificate, your Unit Portal roster must show at least 10% of your total members listed as Community Members. Legislators, School Board members, local business owners, clergy, or any private citizen who wants to add their voice to support the PTA are welcome.
School Pride Award: There's no pride like School Pride, and no one should have more of it than the people who work in your school everyday! This award certificate is given to units who have at least 75% of all school employees listed as Teacher/Staff members on the Unit Portal roster. (A school employee is defined as someone who gets their paycheck from that school’s budget.)
Men Matter Award: Male engagement continues as an important PTA initiative! Studies show that children who have a positive male influence in their lives do better both in and out of the classroom. In support of this goal, we offer the Men Matter Award. Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers and teachers – all men are welcome. Your unit will earn this award if at least 30% of your members are listed as Male on your Unit Portal roster.
Founders Day Recruitment Award: February is the anniversary of the National PTA, and to celebrate its founding, we offer the Founders Day Recruitment Award. In 1897, Alice McLellan Birney recruited other parents who were concerned about the education and welfare of children and started the first PTA unit. In this spirit, if your unit can recruit 15 or more new members – people who are new to the association and who have never been members before, you are eligible for the Founders Day Recruitment Certificate. You must submit payment for these members in the month of February.
Certificates will be awarded by the regions at their local conferences.
These award certificates are given to units who reach 60% of their NYS PTA Membership Goal by October 31. Payment for members must be received in the state office by October 31 and members must be registered in the Unit Portal by November 7.
Award Bonus Drawing:
Each unit who qualifies for the Fast Track Award will be entered into a drawing to take place at the NYS PTA Convention. Six units will be drawn from all recipients to win $250 each.
These award certificates are given to units who are in good standing and have shown outstanding levels of membership growth over the course of the current membership year. Awards are given as follows:
Please note that only memberships payments received in the state office before the May 31 deadline will be eligible.
At the NYS PTA Annual Convention, the five (5) units with the highest membership growth percentage over last year will be recognized.
The unit with the highest percentage will be awarded a certificate to be as full payment for the registration of one individual to attend the 2017 Annual Convention.
The four (4) runner-ups will be awarded certificates with a value up to $300 to use towards payment for attendance at the 2017 Summer Leadership Conference or 2017 Annual Convention.
To qualify for the drawing in any or all categories, your unit must complete three out of the four ideas to grow membership in that demographic. Your unit will also need to submit proof of the activities to your Region Membership Chair (RMC) and have at least 5% overall membership growth over last year by May 31. See below how you can increase your chances to win with higher membership growth!
CONTEST DRAWING: Two (2) winners in each category, for a total of six (6) winners, will be drawn at the 2017 Summer Leadership Conference to win $250 each!

DRAWING ENTRY DETAILS: Proof of your activities in any or all categories must be submitted to your RMC no later than June 7. The RMC will then submit a list of the units who qualify in each category to the Membership Coordinator, Lori Fontana. The Awards will be presented at the 2017 Summer Leadership Conference.
