[NYPT Summer 2018]
By Carol Raymond, Operations / Events Manager
Hundreds of NYS PTA members attended a critical Leadership Conference at College Park Hall at Union College in Schenectady, as they continue their mission to make every child’s potential a reality.
“The Summer Leadership Conference brings parents, caregivers and educators from around the state together, to tackle the challenges facing our schools and communities and to celebrate successes,” said NYS PTA President Gracemarie Rozea. “We are especially thankful to our members in attendance for giving up their time to ‘Lead the Way’ to support ALL children.”
Keynote presentations focused on information on Social Media Awareness and Engaging Families, in addition to 37 workshops which included training on supporting children with special needs, combating the heroin and opioid crisis, plus school aid and family engagement.
One of the highlights was a service project coordinated by NYS PTA Youth Members, who proudly collected over 800 books for the Whitney Book Center.

Before the kick off to SLC, new this year we hosted our first NYS PTA Family Engagement Conference! To make every child’s potential a reality, we must be innovative and bold in our family engagement strategies. This half day conference included keynote speakers and two separate workshop sessions, eight workshops in all, with a focus on strengthening partnerships between family and school, meaningful and practicable family engagement concepts, and support for the whole child and family.
