Summer is when families look forward to lots of fun activities and vacations. For PTA volunteers, it is a time to start planning for the upcoming school year.
Your PTA’s calendar is a masterpiece of book fairs, family nights, plant sales, Reflections ceremonies, PARP, etc. However, how often does your unit or council build advocacy into your calendar?
PTA is the largest child and family advocacy association in the country. Our mission is to make every child’s potential a reality. To truly be one association, we need to incorporate advocacy into our PTA calendars.
NYS PTA has created a simple advocacy calendar that is updated each year. Your units, council and region can use this to build in advocacy each month.
Review the 2017-18 calendar for this past year’s advocacy opportunities and trainings. This will give you a framework and ideas until the 2018-19 calendar is published.
You can also review all of NYS PTA’s advocacy tools to help guide you in your local efforts.
NYS PTA sends TakeAction alert emails to all PTA members in the state.
You can also receive National PTA’s action alerts by registering HERE. By taking this simple step, you will receive emails when there are calls to action on legislative and policy initiatives, both in New York and nationally.
