Now that the legislature is beginning to pass the necessary extender to keep state government open, we look forward to working with the Governor and both houses of the legislature to enact a timely State Budget.

School districts must offer their budgets for vote on May 16, 2017. If the State Budget is delayed until May 31, schools will have very little ability to properly plan for their own budgets. Further, many schools are still struggling to restore necessary programs, and without a state aid proposal for districts, schools may be forced to cut programs and services for students.

We hope that the Legislature and Governor continue to negotiate towards a quick resolution that supports ALL students, realizing that property tax report cards are due by April 24 and that school boards need time to prepare their budgets in order to comply with law.

NYS PTA is committed to making every child’s potential a reality and looks forward to working with New York State officials to see that every child’s dream is achieved.
