May 25, 2017 (Albany) – NYS PTA is highly disappointed in the President’s first budget. According to analysis by the State Education Department, New York’s school children will lose an astounding $443 million in support.
“We are saddened that the proposed federal budget does not adequately support public schools,” offered Gracemarie Rozea, NYS PTA President. “Our public schools support 90 percent of our children and resources should not be diverted away from their learning.”
“There is nothing more important than a high-quality public education. Public education is the great equalizer for families and children, and we must adequately support our children,” Kyle Belokopitsky, NYS PTA Executive Director added. “NYS PTA and our National Affiliate, National PTA, strongly oppose diversion of public dollars away from public schools.”
“Instead of investing in our public school children, the President has proposed more funding for voucher programs,” offered Lana Ajemian, NYS PTA Federal Legislation Chair and Past President. “This proposal is a real disinvestment in public education and we cannot support this plan.”
NYS PTA is committed to making every child’s potential a reality and looks forward to working with New York State and Congressional officials to see that every child’s dream is achieved.
