On December 29, 2019, Governor Cuomo announced that he will introduce legislation to fully ban flavored tobacco and flavored vaping products, including menthol. Further, NYS will ban vaping ads targeted to youth.

“These proposals have been one of the highest priorities of NYS PTA in the past years,” offered NYS PTA President Lorey A. Zaman. “This legislation WILL protect children and their health, especially children in high-need schools, where tobacco ad targeting is of special concern. We are thrilled at these proposals and look forward to working with our partners to see they are enacted. It is a day we can celebrate.”

“What we know: 1 in 4 children in our NYS schools today are vaping,” added Kyle Belokopitsky, NYS PTA Executive Director. “NYS continues its work to protect children. We have added e-cigarettes and vaping devices to the Clean Indoor Air Act. We have banned them from schools grounds. We enacted Tobacco 21. And now, we work together to ensure flavored tobacco products and ads targeted to children are banned – this is a huge day for NY kids.”
