ALEXANDRIA, VA & ALBANY, NY (April 11, 2022) – Our hearts are with the South Bronx community, with Friday’s senseless shooting near University Heights Secondary School, and death of Angellyh Yambo, a
student at University Prep Charter High School.
This was the second shooting involving students just last week and the third in two weeks. This is beyond unacceptable. Action must be taken immediately to implement gun safety and violence prevention policies that will save lives.
National PTA, New York State PTA and PTAs nationwide remain committed to urging Congress to address the gun and school safety epidemic we continue to face as a country. For those in need of mental health support during this time, free resources are available at PTA.org/HealthyMinds.
