“We thank the Rockefeller Institute, and especially Bob Megna and his team for the outreach to parents, families and educators during the development of the Foundation Aid Report just released,” offered Patricia Frazier, NYS PTA President. “Adequate, sufficient, and equitable support for our students continue to be a top priority for our members and Association, and we will continue our analysis of the many recommendations detailed therein. We continue to prioritize support for critical programs, like mental health support for students, supports for students with disabilities, BOCES, CTE and STEAM programs, support for our children living in poverty, homeless students, and our English Language Learners. It is the mission of NYS PTA to ensure that EVERY child is supported with ONE voice – as together we Measure Our Mission for Every Child!”
NYS PTA Executive Director Kyle Belokopitsky offered, “While we support many of the concepts outlined in this detailed proposal, we do have concerns that they can be taken separate and apart, and of the many practical and actual implications of certain provisions. We are especially concerned with provisions related to save harmless, a lack of minimum level of support for all districts, and continue to worry about support for priority areas such as mental health, supports for students with disabilities, BOCES, CTE and STEAM programs, support for our children living in poverty, support for homeless students, and our English Language Learners. However, this report is much more detailed than we anticipated, and we fully appreciate the work of the Rockefeller Institute. We know that stakeholders and policymakers will continue to engage on this critical work – as we make each child’s potential a reality.”
