With just one look at the Park Avenue PTA Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ParkAvePTA/), one can tell that this school is a place where learning and laughter exist side by side. Whether documenting a “tie-riffic” retirement celebration for a beloved 26-year teacher or advertising the inaugural end-of-year block party this June, this unit and its leaders remain committed to providing a plethora of enriching programs and activities to enhance the educational experience of the school’s more than 400 students.
Social media has played a large role in Park Avenue’s recent membership success, helping keep families informed and engaged. Beginning with a save-the-date in the final newsletter of the previous year, members were encouraged to renew membership for the upcoming school year during the summer. Their social media coordinator also did a countdown on various platforms, along with a fun, catchy reel featuring suggestions for an enjoyable summer. Signing up was a breeze with QR codes made accessible at the ever-popular ice cream social, back-to-school nights, pop-up spiritwear stands, and on the PTA bulletin board.
They also held a raffle for spiritwear for all members who signed up at the ice cream social, the first event of the year, which gave them a great head start toward achieving and surpassing their membership goal early. In an effort to increase transparency and connect more with the community, unit leaders hosted a casual snack-and-chat for new families joining the school district. This simple event, along with a host of other intentional, student- and family-focused activities, has helped foster an environment in which all members of the school community feel connected, valued, and supported.
