Every PTA is unique because every community is unique.
A local PTA unit is an independent association that partners with its school and community to create programs, activities, and opportunities that support the needs of children and youth.
PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educational and charitable purposes. As a PTA, we are nonsectarian, noncommercial, and nonpartisan, meaning our focus remains where it belongs: supporting children, families, and communities.
When you join your local PTA, you become a member of three connected organizations:
Your Local PTA Unit
Your direct connection to your school community, where members work together to support students and families.
New York State PTA
Providing resources, advocacy, training, and support to PTAs across New York.
National PTA
Connecting members nationwide through resources, programs, and a collective voice for children.
Your PTA membership opens the door to leadership development opportunities, workshops, conferences, conventions, and resources designed to help members make a difference.
PTA is built on teamwork and leadership. Local units, councils, and regions operate with bylaws, elected officers, and committees that help ensure accountability, collaboration, and success.
Dedicated PTA leaders who volunteer at the local, regional, state, and national levels provide guidance, support, educational resources, programs, publications, and training to help PTAs thrive.
