Parent Voice Critical on School Reopening

NYS PTA’s Seat at the Table on Regents Reopening Committees

June 16, 2020 (Albany) – As NYS begins to plan for a school reopening this coming September, a parent’s voice has never been more important.

NYS PTA is proud to share that 5 NYS PTA Governance Team Members have been appointed to the NYS Board of Regents and State Education Department Reopening Committees.  NYS PTA appointees represent all areas of the state, from Western NY, Central NY, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region, and Long Island.

“There has never been a more important time for the parent and family voice to be heard loud and clear,” offered NYS PTA President Lorey A. Zaman.  “Our PTA members from across the state will bring a critical perspective – one of parent, one of caregiver, one of educator – to this important reopening conversation. We must work together, stakeholders and community, to get our kids back in their seats in front of our great teachers in a safe way come Labor Day. Together, we will make every child’s potential a reality.”

“Representing the families of our 2.6 million school children has always been an honor for NYS PTA,” offered Kyle Belokopitsky, Executive Director.  “We now have representation on both the Governor’s reopening council and the Board of Regents reopening committees. Soon, we will be issuing a statewide survey to gather more feedback from parents, families, and educators on their thoughts on how we can best support our children. Every Child, One Voice.”
