NYS PTA Applauds Historic School Aid Increase

April 7, 2021 (Albany) – For years, NYS schools have been woefully underfunded.

Schools had to make difficult budgeting choices, often having to choose which program it was funding.

With the passage of this budget, there is a full recognition by the Legislature and Governor Cuomo of the importance of public schools. The $1.4 billion investment in Foundation Aid recognizes the critical work of each of our educators and school-related professionals. This historic figure is remarkably just the first step into fully phasing in the Foundation Aid formula.

“To say that we are thrilled would be an understatement,” offered Dana Platin, NYS PTA President. “Our children will realize this investment for the rest of their future and together we will Shine a Light on Every Child.”

Kyle Belokopitsky, NYS PTA Executive Director shares, “We are especially appreciative of the many policymakers who fought so hard for our children. They brought the parent and family voice forward, and we can never thank them enough. We are particularly thankful for our unique partnership with Shelley Mayer, Chair of the Senate Education Committee.”

In addition to the historic school aid that was enacted, we truly thank the Legislature and Governor Cuomo for its policy initiatives which recognized the concerns that many stakeholders had with the executive budget.

On behalf of the students and families of our 2.6 million school children, we thank you.
